SPEARFISH, S.D. – After climbing back up to No. 13 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division II Top-25 Rankings a week ago, a 1-1 outing with a loss at CSU Pueblo (71-53) and a win at UCCS (112-81) over the weekend dropped Black Hills State to No. 20 in this week's release of the poll on Tuesday morning. The Yellow Jackets bounced back from the Thursday loss to the ThunderWolves, which saw a season-low in points and shooting percentage, by scoring the second-most points in school history and posting the best shooting percentage (66.7%) in a single in program history against the Mountain Lions just two days later.
The Yellow Jackets remain among the top statistically in the nation in several different categories, including ranking second in NCAA Division II in effective field goal percentage (58.8%), is third in defensive rebounds per game (29.09), is eighth in field goal percentage (50.4%), is tenth in both assists per game (18.2) and assist/turnover ratio (1.54), is 12
th in 3-point percentage (39.1%), is 16
th in 3-pointers per game (10.3), and is 18
th in scoring margin (+13.3).
The Yellow Jackets are the lone team in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) team to be ranked or receiving votes and are one of six ranked or receiving votes in the South Central Region as Lone Star Conference foes Eastern New Mexico is No. 10, Lubbock Christian is No. 11, St. Edward's is No. 15, and Dallas Baptist and Western New Mexico who are both receiving votes.
Black Hills State is back at home for a pair of games this weekend after concluding a stretch of five road match-ups in six games. The Yellow Jackets will play host to Colorado School of Mines on Thursday, February 12, at 7 p.m. in A2 Arena, followed by a 3 p.m. contest with Regis on Saturday, February 14. Both games will be streamed live on the RMAC Network and will be available on KDSJ Radio. Additionally, both games will be aired on linear tv on KNBN-2 (Rapid City) and KSFL (Sioux Falls).
