SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team jumped three spots up to No. 17 in the 12
th release of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Top-25 on Tuesday morning. The bump in the polls comes after a pair of home wins this past weekend, knocking off the defending RMAC Champions of Colorado School of Mines (87-69) and Regis (84-51). In the win over the Rangers on Saturday, the Yellow Jackets matched the school record for 3-pointers in a game, connecting on 19-of-40 for a 47.5 percent shooting clip.
The Yellow Jackets remain among the top statistically in the nation in several different categories, including ranking second in NCAA Division II in effective field goal percentage (58.8%), is third in defensive rebounds per game (29.17), is seventh in assist/turnover ratio (1.58), is eighth in assists per game (18.5) and 3-point percentage (39.7%), is ninth in 3-pointers per game (10.6), is 11
th in field goal percentage (50.2%), is 15
th in scoring margin (+14.3), and is 26
th in rebound margin (+6.3).
The Yellow Jackets are the lone team in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) to be ranked or receiving votes and are one of six ranked or receiving votes in the South Central Region as Lone Star Conference foes Eastern New Mexico is No. 9, Lubbock Christian is No. 10, St. Edward's is No. 14, and Dallas Baptist and Western New Mexico are both receiving votes.
Black Hills State is on the road for a pair of games this weekend as they travel to Adams State for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off on Thursday, February 19, in Plachy Hall in Alamosa, Colorado, and then are at New Mexico Highlands for a 3 p.m. contest in the John A. Wilson Complex in Las Vegas, New Mexico, on Saturday, February 21. Both games will be streamed live on the RMAC Network and will be available on KDSJ Radio.
