Seventh Inning Run Propels Yellow Jackets to Day One Split of ThunderWolves

PUEBLO, Colo.- After falling in the first game of the series, BHSU bounced back in a big way with a 3-2 win over the ThunderWolves to split the day. The Yellow Jackets held a lead for the majority of the second game, but after a late game-tying home run by Pueblo, BHSU was able to take the lead back with a clutch hit from Katelyn Jarzobski and give BHSU a 1-1 day versus CSU Pueblo.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
  • In the first inning, Wong singled with one out and then reached third on a single by Jessica Melendez. On the throw in from the outfield, the ball got away and Wong scored giving BHSU a 1-0 lead early in this one.
  • With one out in the bottom of the second, Darleen Falcon doubled to get a runner on and then Madelyn Huerta walked and Lydia Tibbals reached on a bunt single to load the bases with one out. Caitlyn Cole doubled to score two runs and then Geschwill got the next two batters out to only be down one run at 2-1.
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, after no runs scored in the third, Huerta walked to begin the inning before Geschwill got the next two batters out. With two outs, Gissel Morales-Cermeno hit a two-run home run to give CSUP a 4-1 lead. McKenna James and Reese Reimler each hit singles following the home run and Emma Case was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Cali Cole, who doubled to score two more runs and give CSUP a 6-1 lead.
  • No runs were scored in the fifth or sixth inning before the Yellow Jackets came up in the top of the seventh. Caylee Mann hit a leadoff home run to make it 6-2 before the next three batters got out to end the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
  • The first inning was a wild one for BHSU as Carly Reyes Mims sind to leadoff and advanced to second on a passed ball. She advanced to third on a groundout and scored on an error that allowed the batter Jessica Melendez to reach base. Sammie Kaufman-Warner also reached base on an error, but was thrown out at second base, which allowed Melendez to get to third. Melendez then scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0 BHSU
  • Paige Goodell was pitching well again allowing no runs in the first four innings of the game. In the bottom of the fifth, she allowed a double to Caitlyn Cole who advanced to third on a groundout. She then scored on a two-out two-run home run by Reese Reimler to tie the game at 2-2.
  • In the top of the seventh, Desi Hernandez reached on a throwing error and then her pinch runner Brooklyn Theiler advanced to second on a groundout. Katelyn Jarzobski hit a pinch-hit RBI single to score Theiler and give BHSU a 3-2 lead late in this one. Honse came into pitch in the sixth and finished the seventh too only facing four batters in the seventh.
