SPEARFISH, S.D. – For the second consecutive week, the Black Hills State University men's basketball team made a move up in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Top-25 Rankings on Tuesday morning to No. 13 in the country. The four spot gain in the national rankings for the Yellow Jackets come following a pair of rivalry wins as they went on the road to take down Chadron State (77-59) and then returned home to defeat South Dakota Mines (90-64) in front of NCAA Division II's sixth-largest crowd this year (3,226) and the largest crowd in A2 Arena in the DII era.
The Yellow Jackets remain among the top statistically in the nation in several different categories, including ranking second in NCAA Division II in effective field goal percentage (58.6%), is seventh in both assists per game (18.3) and defensive rebound per game (28.95), is tenth in field goal percentage (50.3%), is 11
th in assist/turnover ratio (1.54), is 15
th in 3-pointers per game (10.3), is 16
th in 3-point percentage (38.5%), is 19
th in scoring margin (+14.0), and is 23
rd in free throw percentage (76.4%).
The Yellow Jackets are one of two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) team to be ranked or receiving votes and are one of eight ranked or receiving votes in the South Central Region as RMAC and Lone Star Conference foes Lubbock Christian is No. 7, Eastern New Mexico is No. 11, St. Edward's is No. 19, and Western New Mexico, Fort Lewis, Dallas Baptist, and St. Mary's are receiving votes.
Black Hills State returns to the road for two more contests in the state of Colorado, visiting CSU Pueblo for a 7:30 p.m. game in Massari Arena on Thursday, February 5, and UCCS for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday, February 7, in the Gallogly Events Center. Both games will be streamed live on the RMAC Network and will be available on KDSJ Radio.
