HOW IT HAPPENED
- BHSU had two on in the first inning, but couldn't score and UCO went 1-2-3 in their half of the inning. However, BHSU kept the pressure going early. In the second inning, Jessica Melendez singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. She then advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a bunt single by Anna Gietzen. UCO made a pitching change and Carleigh Kinnaird struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
- After not scoring in the bottom of the second, UCO got on the board in the bottom of the third with Brooklyn Lyles singling and Bonnie Childs hitting a double to put runners on second and third with no outs. Poag got a foul out before Rylee Lamos hit a single to tie the game at 1-1. Poag got out of the inning on two groundouts and it was 1-1.
- UCO broke it open in the bottom of the fourth. Kennedy Clark led off the inning with a double, Haley Gallo walked which brought in Kaitlyn Geschwill to replace Poag. A wild pitch advanced both runners and Hannah Demoff walked to load the bases. A sacrifice fly scored the lead runner and advanced the other two and a Childs single scored Gallo to make it 3-1. A bunt single loaded the bases and a Lemos triple cleared them to make it 6-1. Geschwill got Ryan to strike out looking and then allowed an RBI double to Jenna Jobe to make it 7-1. Sophia Honse replaced Geschwill and got the next two batters out to keep it at 7-1.
- In the top of the fifth, BHSU got a one-out single from Caylee Mann and then Mann scored on a double by Sammie Kaufman-Warner to make it 7-2. That was the end of that run however as BHSU fell 7-2, but Honse got six of the next seven batters out to not let the Bronchos score again.
