INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 13 Black Hills State University men's basketball team held steady at No. 6 in the NCAA's second ranking and third release of the South Central Region polls on Wednesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets clinched their second outright RMAC Regular Season Championship in the last five years this past weekend, defeating Westminster (80-58) and Colorado Mesa (74-65) to conclude the regular season. The regional rankings only consider games through March 1, with the victory over UCCS (74-73) in the quarterfinals of the RMAC Men's Basketball Tournament not yet factored in as the Yellow Jackets improved to 25-4 (17-3 RMAC) on the year and 11-1 at home in A2 Arena.
The Yellow Jackets are one of three teams from the RMAC to appear in the second release of the South Central Region rankings, alongside of Colorado Mesa and CSU Pueblo who are No. 8 and No. 10 respectively. The other league represented in the region, the Lone Star Conference, claims the other seven representatives in the first release as Lubbock Christian is No. 1, Dallas Baptist is No. 2, Eastern New Mexico is No. 3, Western New Mexico is No. 4, St. Edward's is No. 5, St. Mary's is No. 7, and West Texas A&M is No. 9.
Looking to capture their second RMAC Men's Basketball Tournament title in program history on their home court in the upcoming days, Black Hills State will host Fort Lewis at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 6, in A2 Arena in Spearfish. The winner of the Yellow Jackets and Skyhawks match-up will advance to the tournament championship game at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, again back in A2 Arena. Both games will be streamed live on the RMAC Network and will be available on KDSJ Radio.
The NCAA will release the official bracket for the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament with a selection show at 9 p.m. MT on Sunday, March 8, on NCAA.com.
The first round of the South Central Region Tournament will take place on Saturday, March 14, the regional semifinals will be Sunday, March 15, and the regional championship will be Tuesday, March 17. All games in the regional tournament will be hosted by the top seed in the region.
