AZUSA AND LA VERNE, Calif. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's track & field teams were back in action in the first day of a trip to southern California for distance runners, competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Leopard Invitational on Thursday. During the day a pair of times were added to the All-Time Yellow Jacket Performance List as the day began with
Gavin Kuhlenbeck running the fourth-fastest time in school history in the 10,000m run at the Bryan Clay Invitational, and
Evie Boyd later breaking a 21-year old school record in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Leopard Invitational. Another notable performance at La Verne's Ortmayer Stadium occurred in the 10,000m run as
Turner Christians captured the event title.

HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S TRACK & FIELD AT THE BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL
- The southern California weekend trip kicked off with a top-5 time in school history in the 10,000m run as Gavin Kuhlenbeck clocked a career-best time of 30:34.13 for 34th place in a field of 65 athletes. His time ranks fourth in program history as he finished ahead of 16 NCAA Division I athletes.
HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S TRACK & FIELD AT THE LEOPARD INVITATIONAL
- In the 10,000m run, Turner Christians ran to a season-best and winning time of 31:43.09 for the event title, averaging a pace of 1:16.13. In the field of 13 athletes, he beat two NCAA Division I athletes. Additionally, Kuhlenbeck started the race after competing in the event earlier in the day at the Bryan Clay Invitational but did not finish. He ended the race on lap 13 with a time of 16:09.72 and a pace of 1:14.60.
- Landrum Wiley competed in the 3,000m steeplechase as he clocked a career-best time of 9:20.75 for 12th place. In the field of 38 athletes, he finished ahead of three NCAA Division I athletes.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD AT THE LEOPARD INVITATIONAL
- Recording a school record and Ortmayer Stadium record, Evie Boyd earned a NCAA Provisional time of 10:29.85 to win the event with the first-ever sub 10:30 time in the event in program history. In the field of 29 athletes, she beat six NCAA Division I athletes and posted a time that ranks fourth in all of NCAA Division II based on times entering the weekend.
