Four Top-10 Program Marks Highlight Mines Midweek & Multi

GOLDEN, Colo. – A busy week for Black Hills State University men's and women's track & field got under way on Wednesday and Thursday as the Yellow Jackets competed at the Mines Midweek & Multi, hosted by Colorado School of Mines at the Stermole Track & Field Complex. The Green & Gold saw a pair of NCAA Provisional marks and four new top-10 marks in school history during the first of three meets this week. On the men's side, Flynn Johnston, who had already posted one NCAA Provisional time in the 400m hurdles, improved his time and moved into second all-time in school history in the event. On the women's side the trio of Cassidy Goddard (hammer throw), Avery Marler (long jump), and Alivia Weathers (heptathlon) posted new top-10 program marks in their respective events. Goddard highlighted the women's action with a pair of career-best marks in the javelin and the hammer throw, which included an NCAA Provisional mark in the hammer throw as she moved into a tie for fifth place all-time in school history.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • In the 100m dash, Jude Guevara clocked a time of 11.26 for 12th place, while Ashley Williams added a 16th place finish with a time of 11.46.
  • Williams added a 13th place in the 200m dash, recording a time of 23.18.
  • Crossing the finish line 15th in the 110m hurdles, Jayden Curtis notched a time of 15.72.
  • Flynn Johnston notched another NCAA Provisional mark in the 400m hurdles, clocking a career-best time of 52.56 for third place. He was the top finishing DII athlete behind a pair of Colorado State hurdlers and now ranks second in Black Hills State history in the event.
  •  Leading the way for three top-5 finishes for the Yellow Jackets in the long jump, Curtis recorded a season-best mark of 6.73m (22' 1") for third place. Finishing fourth place with a jump of 6.63m (21' 9") was Bridger Anderson, and in fifth place with a mark of 6.54m (21' 5.5") was Javin Walker.
  • Casen Willson secured a top-5 finish in the triple jump with a mark of 12.96m (42' 6.25").
  • Casen Willson notched the seventh-best throw in program history with a career-best mark of 51.48m (168' 11") for seventh place in the javelin, while Seth Wilson was ninth with a mark of 34.47m (113' 1").
HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • Avery Marler and Saraya Afrank notched top-5 finishes in the 200m dash, clocking times of 25.78 and 26.43 for second and fourth place respectively. Gracie Wilts added a seventh place finish and time of 27.25 in the event.
  • Madyson Wolfe clocked a pair of career-best times in the 100m hurdles and the 400m hurdles. She posted a time of 15.47 for third place in the 100m hurdles and 1:05.29 for eighth place in the 400m hurdles. She was the top finishing DII athlete in the 100m hurdles and had the third-fastest time in the 400m hurdles.
  • Marler added a career-best mark in the long jump, moving into fourth all-time in program history with a jump of 5.70m (18' 8.5"). Afrank also finished 11th in the event with a jump of 5.23m (17' 2").
  • In the hammer throw invite, Cassidy Goddard moved into a tie for fifth all-time in program history as she recorded a career-best and NCAA Provisional mark of 53.84m (176' 8") for sixth place. She was the second highest finishing DII athlete in the event.
  • Hanah Sullivan captured the event title in the open hammer throw, recording a mark of 46.50m (152' 7") for the win.
  • Goddard notched a second career-best mark with a tenth place throw of 31.93m (104' 9") in the javelin.
  • Alivia Weathers posted a career-best point total of 4,203 in the heptathlon, finishing in sixth place in the meet. The point total moved her into sixth all-time in program history in the event. She recorded a career-best mark in the high jump at 1.41m (4' 11.5") for third place and a career-best time of 15.74 in the 100m hurdles for fifth place. In the heptathlon she won the javelin throw with a mark of 36.75m (120' 7"), was second in the shot put with a mark of 11.24m (36' 10.5"), was seventh in the long jump with a mark of 4.92m (16' 1.75"), was eighth in the 200m dash with a time of 27.89), and was tenth in the 800m run with a time of 2:53.21.
