Agee Breaks Single Season Goals Record in Draw with Montana State Billings

SPEARFISH, S.D. - The Black Hills State University women's soccer program remained unbeaten following their final tune-up game for next week's RMAC opener, as they battled to a 1-1 draw with Montana State Billings at the Black Hills Power Sports Complex on Friday afternoon. Highlighted with the lone goal of the afternoon for the Green & Gold, Ivy Agee in just her fifth collegiate game, broke the school's single season goals record with her sixth of the year, while also notching her third consecutive game with a goal. The highly aggressive offensive attack led BHSU to their fourth game in five tries winning the battle in shot attempts.

QUICK DETAILS
Score: Black Hills State 1, Montana State Billings 1
Team Records: Black Hills State 3-0-2 (0-0 RMAC), Montana State Billings 0-1-3
Attendance: 173

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Black Hills State ramped up the offensive attack right off the opening kickoff, as Ivy Agee sent a shot over the top of the goal from midfield. That set the tone for four shot attempts, two shots on target, and two corner kicks in the first 13 minutes of action.
  • Rian Barthel made her first and only save of the first half in the 14th minute as a counter attack saw Cesia Swain track down a long pass up the field and send a cross pass into the box where she found Kolbi Kiblen. Kiblen then fired a shot towards the right side of the net, forcing Barthel to make a diving stop.
  • In the 22nd minute the Yellow Jackets struck first as Kylea Becker found Agee who made a run into the box, worked her way past a defender to the right while also pulling the MSUB goalkeeper, Tenley Leffler, over as well to open space on the left side of the net. Agee then fired a shot across the box and into the net to give BHSU the 1-0 advantage and become the school's single season goals (6) record holder.
  • The BHSU offensive attack continued to put the pressure on the Montana State Billings defense, tallying an 11-3 advantage in shot attempts, a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal, and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks in the first half.
  • The momentum began to shift in the early stages of the second half as MSUB struck with the equalizer in the 55th minute off a corner kick set from Kelsie Cox who found Ava Gibbs for the header into the top left corner of the net.
  • The defense then began to tighten up the remainder of the match, as Montana State Billings held a 3-2 edge in shot attempts the final 35 minutes of action. Each team recorded one final shot on target in the closing minutes, first as Ally Boysen took a pass off a corner kick and headed it towards the center of the net before it was deflected out in the 84th minute. Then with just 30 seconds to play, Barthel secured a save to keep the score tied at one apiece, as Kiblen tracked down a long pass forward and fired the ball towards the center of the net where Barthel made the diving stop for her only save of the second half.
