PUEBLO, Colo.- The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets were unable to get the weekend sweep and fell to 1-1 on the weekend by losing 3-0 to the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves. HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUP took the opening two points of the match and was immediately matched by BHSU. Another two point swing gave CSUP the 4-2 lead. BHSU would win three in a row with kills by Carsyn Mettler and Zoie Husman to make it 5-4. The ThunderWolves took four out of five before a 4-0 run by BHSU with a kill and an ace by Husman to give the Yellow Jackets a 10-8 lead. Pueblo took six in a row and then took 12 of 16 points to get a major 20-14 lead. Izzy Saiki and Peyton McLeod got two kills in a 5-2Â run that cut the lead to three at 22-19 before CSU Pueblo won three in a row to take the set 25-19.
- Pueblo started the second set strong too taking an 8-4 lead early. They then won seven of the next 12 to go up 15-9. McLeod would go on a solo 3-0 run with two kills and a block before Pueblo got back-to-back points to keep the lead at five at 17-12. A 6-3 run put BHSU only down two at 20-18 as Izabel Abril had three kills in the run. A 5-1 run gave Pueblo the win at 25-19 as the ThunderWolves had four kills in their final five points.
- BHSU started this set strong taking an early 8-5 lead as Saiki had three kills and an ace in the start. CSUP would win four in a row to take a 9-8 lead before BHSU took six of the next seven with two kills from Mettler to take a 14-10 lead. Pueblo turned on the jets directly after and went on a 14-3 run including seven in a row early in the run to take a 24-17 lead. The Green and Gold was able to win three in a row to make it 24-20 but a kill by CSUP won them the game 3-0.
