Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University softball team lost two games to Great Falls on Saturday at the Black Hills State Softball Complex in Spearfish, S.D.
The Yellow Jackets fell 6-3 in the first game. Black Hills State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a homerun by junior Aleishia Giesey. Giesey was 2-for-3 in the contest. Sophomore Meagan Bell also had a one-run homerun and Kyley Barela knocked in the only other run for the Yellow Jackets. The game was tied at three entering the top of the sixth before the Argos put up three runs. Black Hills State was unable to overcome the late inning rally and junior Katie Wagner took the loss. Wagner's record fell to 2-5 on the season.
In the second game of the day, Black Hills State was defeated 6-3. Freshman Kelsie Chambers was 3-for-4 in the game with two RBIs. Junior Karly Ackerman was 2-for-4 and scored a run. Another late inning surge by Great Falls sealed the Argos victory. The Argos scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull ahead and guarantee the victory. Chambers was in the circle for the Yellow Jackets. Chambers took to the loss and fell to 1-3 on the year.
Black Hills State will return to action on Sunday, March 19 against Great Falls for another doubleheader. Game times are scheduled for 12 noon MT and 2 p.m. MT.
