Tucson, Ariz. – The Black Hills State University softball team fell to Hope International 10-5 and Rockhurst 11-10 in Tucson, Ariz. on Monday.
"We are playing very good teams early in the season which will only make us better," said head coach Amy Gurney. "In every single game, we have had a chance to win the game. Today we were strong offensively and yesterday we were strong defensively. Now it's the next step is to put it all together."
Kelsie Chambers was 2-for-2 against Hope International. She hit a one-run homerun in the second inning and followed up the performance with a grand slam in the third inning. She had all five RBIs for the Yellow Jackets in the game. Aleishia Giesey was 2-for-4 with two singles. Nikki Chacon took the loss in the circle.
Chambers was 3-for-3 with two homeruns in the game against Rockhurst. She hit a homerun to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Giesey was 2-for-3 with a one-run homerun in the fifth inning. Katie Wagner suffered the loss in the game.
Chambers, the Rapid City native, has tallied five homeruns in four games.
Black Hills State will take to the field on Tuesday, March 8 for the third day of the Tucson Invitational. The Yellow Jackets will face Olivet Nazarene and Calumet tomorrow.
