Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University softball team picked up two exhibition wins over Western Nebraska on Wednesday afternoon in Spearfish, S.D.

The Yellow Jackets won the first game 4-0.  The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when Aleshia Giesey singled to drive in Kelli Heiser.  With runners at the corners, head coach Amy Gurney called a double-steal and Rebecca Hugley stole home making the scored 2-0.  Black Hills State would put up two more runs in the inning giving the Yellow Jackets a 4-0 lead going into the top of the seventh inning.  Katie Wagner struck out two batters in the final inning to secure the victory.

In the second game, Black Hills State jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after two innings.  The Yellow Jackets would allow only two hits in the contest and allowed only one run.  Alex Huntington was 2-for-2 in the game, scored two runs, and had a walk.  Huntington also pitched two innings and struck out three batters.  Kyley Barela was 1-for-2 with a walk, drove in one run, and scored two runs.  Black Hills State won the game 7-1.

Black Hills State will take to the field on Monday, April 25 for makeup games against Dakota State.  The doubleheader is slated to begin at 4 p.m. CT in Madison, S.D.
