Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State volleyball team won its first match in RMAC play on Friday night in straight-sets (25-16, 25-22, 25-15) against New Mexico Highlands and then fell on Saturday to Western New Mexico.
The win was led by the play of Caitlin Templeton and Meghan Sipe. Templeton recorded three digs, a solo block and a game-high 15 kill (.462 kill percentage). Sipe had an outstanding all-around game with 10 kill and five digs. Darbi Yost led the Jackets in assists with 22 and freshman Jenna Jordan added 11.
In Saturday's game, the Yellow Jackets lost in three hard fought sets (24-25, 21-25, 25-27) to Western New Mexico. The Yellow Jackets efforts were led by Amy O'Neill, who recorded 11 kills, seven digs, two service aces and two assists. Sipe added nine kills, four blocks and a team-high 8 digs. Holly Hamlin anchored the defense with five solo blocks.
Western New Mexico was led by Angelina Pulu who recorded 13 kills.
The Yellow Jackets now travel back home to play a four-game home stand, starting with No.24 Adams State on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
