Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State volleyball team battled five sets against rival South Dakota School of Mines and won the final set 15-13 to secure the victory.
Amy O'Neill and Caitlin Templeton had monster games with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Meghan Sipe had a solid all-around game with a team-high 23 digs, two blocks and nine kills. Darbi Yost led the team with 29 assists. Freshman Jenna Jordan had an impressive performance with 21 assists and seven digs.
The Yellow Jackets were able to bounce back after losing the first set (22-25, 25-22, 25-15, 18-25, 15-13).
"Our performance showed out ability to play under pressure. Every night we have been challenged by RMAC opponents. It was gratifying for our athletes to work together to achieve an emotional victory over our rival at (SD) Mines," said head coach Sally Nichols. "We were impressed with the tenacity that Kylee Lamb and Holly Hamlin showed in the match. In addition, Jenna Jordan stepped-up and delivered a great performance at the setter position."
BHSU begins its long road trip at Fort Lewis on Friday. The Yellow Jackets will then continue on to play Colorado Mesa, New Mexico highlands and Western State. The Jackets will return home to play Adams State on Oct. 18.
