Chadron, Neb. – The Black Hills State volleyball team (10-16, RMAC 4-12) secured a 3-1 victory over Chadron State (4-21, RMAC 2-14) in its last away match of the season.
The Yellow Jackets were slow out of the gate, dropping the first set 20-25. The Yellow Jackets began to pick-up the intensity and won the following three sets (21-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-23).
Caitlin Templeton and Amy O'Neill led the Yellow Jackets' attack with 15 and 12 kills, respectively. Templeton also played an instrumental role on defense with two solo blocks and three assisted blocks. Holly Hamlin's net presence also assisted BHSU to victory with a team-high six blocks.
"Caitlin Templeton dominated the net and she proved to be too much for the Eagle defense to handle," said head coach Sally Nichols. "Our ladies out blocked Chadron 14 to 10, with contributions from Kylee Lamb, Holly Hamlin, Amy O'Neill and Meghan Sipe."
Darbi Yost led the Yellow Jackets with 33 assists and a team-high 23 digs. Kelsey Olson added 17 digs. Meghan Sipe had another impressive all-around outing with eight kills, five service aces, eight digs, and one block.
"We also had stellar performances from Kelsey Olson, Kyla Johnson and Jessica Reble," Nichols said. "In addition, Darbi Yost had a great match running a 5-1 offense and playing solid defense, contributing 23 digs."
The Jackets have played Chadron two previous times this season, splitting the series 1-1. In their last meeting this season on Sept. 1, the Yellow Jackets lost 1-3. The Eagles' efforts were led by Jessica Jester and Lexi Hoagland who had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
BHSU will now finish out the season with four remaining home games, starting Friday night against non-conference opponent Jamestown. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
