SPEARFISH, S.D. – Behind a balanced team effort, the Black Hills State University volleyball team swept Colorado Christian University 3-0 Saturday night in the Young Center.
The Yellow Jackets move to .500 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at 6-6 and 8-13 overall. Colorado Christian falls to 12-9 overall and 5-6 in the loop.
The Yellow Jackets won the three sets 25-21, 25-23 and 25-16 for their second-straight sweep. Black Hills State swept Chadron State on October 14.
The Yellow Jackets opened up leads of 11-6 and 15-8 as they cruised in the opening set eventually building a 23-17. The Yellow Jackets got their final two points of the match from an attack error of the Cougars and a kill off the hands of Kenzie Kazmer.
The second set saw Colorado Christian push a 13-9 lead until five-straight Yellow Jacket points gave the Green and Gold a 14-13 lead. The run began with a kill for Danielle Torpey and continued with kills from Meghan Sipe and Kazmer. Two-straight attack errors from CCU gave BHSU the lead.
With Black Hills still leading 24-19, the Cougars made a run scoring four-straight points to pull within 24-23 but a kill from Holly Hamlin ended any hope for the visitors.
The Yellow Jackets went on cruise control in the third, and final, set opening a lead of 12-6, 20-13 and eventually 25-16. The final point came as Brynn Eckhardt set Hamlin up for the kill.
The Yellow Jackets take their two-match winning streak to Chadron State on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. first serve.
