VB: Yellow Jackets Win Third-Straight Match

CHADRON, Neb. – The Black Hills State University volleyball team won their third-straight match Tuesday night with a 3-1 victory over Chadron State University in Chadron, Nebraska.

The Yellow Jackets have now won three-straight matches for the first time since the 2012 season and improve to 9-13 overall and 7-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Chadron State falls to 3-18, 2-11, as Black Hills State beat the Eagles for the third time this season and second time during RMAC action.

The Yellow Jackets took the 3-1 victory 26-24, 25-16, 17-25, and 25-20.

Black Hills State had to come from behind in the first set, falling behind by as many as six points at 19-13. The Yellow Jackets knotted the score at 24-24 as Meghan Sipe found an opening for the kill. An attack error from the Eagles set the Yellow Jackets up for set point where Sipe blocked the attack from Lelalelei Nomura for the victory.

The Yellow Jackets led from start to finish in the second set, a 25-16 triumph. Holding a 12-11 lead, the Green and Gold went on a run to open a 20-13 lead that continued to stretch until the 25th point where Brynn Eckhardt set Sipe up with the kill for set point.

After falling in set three 25-17, the Yellow Jackets turned up the heat in the fourth set. Holding a 10-8 lead, Black Hills State reeled off eight-straight points for the 18-8 lead. The run started with a Holly Hamlin and Eckhardt assisted block and continued with seven-straight points with Eckhardt serving.

Chadron State tried to make things interesting late in the set pulling to within three points at 23-20 before the Yellow Jackets moved to match point on a kill from Hamlin. The Green and Gold won the set and the match on kill from Danielle Torpey in the 25-20 victory.

The Yellow Jackets return to the court Friday with a 7 p.m. match at Colorado Christian University. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
