SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University volleyball team fell 3-0 to No. 20 Metropolitan State University of Denver Friday night in the Young Center.
The Roadrunners won the three sets 25-15, 25-22 and 25-18 to improve to 21-3 overall and 14-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while the Yellow Jackets fall to 9-15, 7-8.
Behind 24-14 in the second set, the Yellow Jackets nearly pulled off the improbable comeback with eight-straight points with Lacy Stevens serving. The run got started with four-straight kills, two from Danielle Torpey and two from Holly Hamlin.
Black Hills State then got a little help from MSU Denver with an attacking error from Betty Van Lith to make the score 24-19. Holly Hamlin then had two more kills to pull within three points at 24-21. Summer Greager had an attacking error for the Roadrunners as the Yellow Jackets pulled within striking distance.
However, on the next play, Abbie Noland had a kill set up by Brandi Torr for the set point.
The Yellow Jackets continue its three-game homestand with "Parents Day" Saturday at 3 p.m. Black Hills State hosts No. 6 Colorado School of Mines.
