BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Black Hills State University track & field teams set three school records and four NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the SDSU Indoor Classic held Friday and Saturday in Brookings, South Dakota.
Alec Baldwin won the 5,000-meter run in 14:15.99 and the mile run in 4:06.91. The 5K crushed the school record by more than 16 seconds while the mile run broke his own previous school record by nearly two seconds. Both marks are NCAA provisional times. Both marks also set the facility record in the two-year old Sanford –Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
Also a school record, Trent Baldwin ran the 200-meter dash in 22.64 seconds, eclipsing the previous record by .02 of a second.
As far as NCAA provisional marks go, Madison McLaughlin upped her season-bests in the shot put and weight throw. In the shot, she won the event with a toss of 49-5.5, defeating six NCAA division I athletes in the top-10. In the weight throw, McLaughlin placed third with a toss of 59-2, this time placing behind a pair of division I athletes.
In the triple jump, Josh Dotson tied for fourth place with a leap of 46-feet even.
In the 3,000-meter run, Jonah Theisen placed fifth in a time of 8:28.96. The time was a season-best for the freshman.
The Yellow Jackets return home to the Young Center on Saturday for the Stinger Open. It is the final meet before the RMAC Championships held February 27 and 28 in Chadron, Nebraska.
With two meets before the NCAA Championships, Alec Baldwin ranks fourth in the nation in the mile run and 11th in the 5,000-meter run. McLaughlin ranks sixth in the shot put and 17th in the weight throw.
