Box Score ALAMOSA, COLO. – The Green and Gold fell, 3-1, to Adams State University on Saturday, Oct. 13, in Colorado. The Grizzlies won by scores of 20-25, 25-9, 25-15, and 25-21.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair, until the Yellow Jackets finally went on 4-1 run to lead Adams State, 9-6. The Grizzlies tied up the set, 17-17, before the Green and Gold took back the lead with a kill from
Madison Hoopman and
Makayla Bell. The Yellow Jackets took the initial set, 25-20, to lead the match.
Adams State attacked early in the second set, going on an 8-1 run, and never looked back. Kills from both
Sierra Ward and
Carisa Becerra helped cut down the Grizzlies lead, but Adams State went on to tie up the match, 1-1, after taking the second set, 25-9.
The Grizzlies jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the third set. Attack errors from Adams State and back-to-back kills from
Laurel Lech bridged the gap of the Grizzlies lead. Adams State went on an 8-2 run to lead the Yellow Jackets, 21-12. The Grizzlies took the third set, 25-15, to lead the match, 2-1.
The Yellow Jackets led off the fourth set with a 6-0 run to lead Adams State. The Grizzlies answered, taking a 15-13 lead over the Green and Gold. Hoopman and
Ellise Lech racked up a couple of kills to help the Yellow Jackets cut the gap of the Grizzlies lead. Adams State used a 4-2 run to take the set, and the match.
Black Hills State will continue traveling on the road to take on Colorado Christian and Regis on Oct. 19 and 20. First serve is set at 7 p.m. on Friday in Lakewood, Colo., and at 5 p.m. in Denver, Colo., on Saturday.
