VB: Rangers too much for the Yellow Jackets

Box Score DENVER, COLO. – The Black Hills State volleyball team fell, 3-0, in their final away game of the season to Regis University.  The Rangers won by scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-11, on Saturday night.

With back-and-forth action in the first set, neither team set a stable lead until the Rangers broke away to lead, 10-7.  A kill by Makyala Bell and Laurel Lech helped bridged the gap of Regis', 12-9, lead.  The Rangers responded with a 7-1 run to advance its lead. Regis would eventually take the initial set, 25-14.

The Rangers kept the momentum going in the second set after jumping out to an early 4-1 lead over the Yellow Jackets.  A service error and kill by Ellise Lech cut down Regis' lead, but was responded with a 5-1 by the Rangers to give them a 16-6 lead.  Unable to string together a successful run, the Green and Gold would fall, 25-16, for Regis to go ahead, 2-0, in the match.

In the third set, the Rangers attacked early to start off with a 5-2 lead.  Kills from both Jadie DeLange and Laurel Lech kept the score within two points, until Regis used a 5-1 run to push further ahead of the Yellow Jackets.  The Rangers went on to take the set, and the match, 3-0.

The Yellow Jackets will return home for rematches against MSU – Denver and Chadron State on Oct. 26 and 27.  First serve is slated at 7 p.m. on Friday and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, at the Donald E. Young Center.
