SPEARFISH, S.D. – Members of the Black Hills State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams are competing at Last Chance Meets this weekend. Seven student-athletes will participate at the Loper Last Chance Twilight Meet, while one will travel to the Oxy Invitational.
Justin Thorstad will be traveling to Los Angeles, Calif., to run the 800 meters at the Oxy Invite. The meet, hosted by Occidental College, will be held on Saturday, May 12. Thorstad's race is scheduled to take place approximately 5:55 p.m.
Seven Jackets will travel to Kearney, Neb., to compete at the Loper Last Chance Twilight, hosted by the University of Nebraska Kearney, on Sunday, May 13.
Tristan Hepp is entered in the 400 meter hurdles, while
Taylor Hepp will run in both the 400 and 200 meter dash.
Bryce Boser will participate in the pole vault, while
Allan McDonnell will be in the high jump.
On the women's side,
Whitney Scott and
Jordyn Huneke will both compete in the pole vault.
Nicole Allerdings will run in the 1500 in Kearney.
Field events begin at 4 p.m., while the first running events the Green and Gold will make an appearance in start at 5:25 p.m.
Nearly all the competitors for BHSU this weekend have set provisional qualifying marks, and are looking to move up in standings to qualify for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.
Tristan Hepp has a provisional mark in both the 400 meter hurdles (52.71) and the high jump (2.05m/6-08.75). Boser has a provisional mark in the pole vault (4.80m/15-09), while McDonnell has a provisional mark in the high jump (2.05m/6-08.75). Thorstad's 1:50.78 is a provisional mark in the 800 meter run. Scott (3.86m/12-08) and Huneke (3.80m/12-05.50) have both hit provisional qualifying marks in the pole vault.
