SPEARFISH, S.D. – Three members of the Black Hills State University track and field teams will compete at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championship this weekend.
Jordyn Huneke and
Whitney Scott will compete in the women's pole vault, while
Justin Thorstad will run in the men's 800 meter run.
Scott, from Watertown, S.D., recently won the RMAC Championship in the pole vault, while Huneke, from Rapid City, S.D., was fifth in the event. Both freshman earned USTFCCA South Central All-Region honors, while Scott was All-RMAC First Team, and Huneke was named to the All-RMAC Second Team. Scott's mark at the RMAC Championship of 3.86 meters was good enough to qualify her for the NCAA Championship, with the 18th best mark in the country. Huneke qualified with the 24th best mark in the country of 3.80 meters.
The women's pole vault competition is scheduled for noon on Thursday, May 24.
Thorstad, from Bellevue, Neb., was recently named All-RMAC Second Team after finishing sixth in the 800 at the conference championship. His provisional time of 1:50.78 was good enough to qualify the senior for the national championship meet with the 20th best time.
The men's 800 preliminaries will occur on Friday, May 25, at 4:05 p.m. The finals are scheduled for Saturday, May 26, at 3:05 p.m.
The NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships are occurring in Charlotte, N.C., hosted by Johnson C. Smith University.
