VB: Yellow Jackets head east for Augustana Tournament

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State volleyball team heads off to Sioux Falls for the annual Augustana Tournament.  The Yellow Jackets take on Fort Hays State, the University of Mary, and Minnesota State – Moorhead on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.  First serve is at 8 a.m. on Friday and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
 
Fort Hays State comes to the tournament with a 4-0 record under its belt.  The Tigers placed 11th in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Preseason Poll. 
 
On offense, Isabelle Reynolds leads FHSU with 39 kills and a .326 attack percentage in 12 sets.  Breann Becker has 88 assists, and averages 7.33 assists per set. 
 
Abbie Hayes leads the Tigers' defense with 64 digs, averaging 4.92 digs per set.  Alongside her is Tatum Bartels with 10 blocks, nine being assisted and one solo.   
 
The Green and Gold will play their second match against the University of Mary.  The Marauders were ranked 14th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Poll, and currently hold a 3-1 record.
 
In 15 sets, Natalia Cruz has tallied 42 kills with a 2.8 kill per set average for the University of Mary, while Breanna Donarski has 62 digs and averages 4.13 digs per set.  Sydney Murphy holds 131 assists, with an 8.73 assist per game average. 
 
On defense, Madison Bergthold has 14 blocks, with 10 being assisted and four solo.  Bergthold averages .93 blocks per game.
 
Minnesota State University – Moorhead will be the final game of the tournament for the Yellow Jackets on Saturday.  Currently with a 3-1 overall record, the Mustangs were picked 12th in the NSIC Preseason Poll.
 
Leading Moorhead on offense is Andy Cook with 48 kills, with a 3.43 kill per set average.  Sarah Glawe, noted as the primary setter, has 71 assists, and averages 5.07 assists per set. 
 
Erin Richburg holds down the Mustangs' defense with 25 digs on the season, and averages 1.79 digs per set.
 
Black Hills State returned from the Tarleton Invitational with a 1-3 record after sweeping Southwest Baptist, 3-0, for their first win of the season. 
 
Senior Carisa Becerra and freshman Jadie DeLange lead the offense with 24 kills each and a 2.0 kill per set average in 12 sets.  Sierra Stugelmeyer follows with 23 kills, and averages 1.92 kills per set. 
 
Laurel Lech makes her impression on the offense, holding 86 assists, with a 7.17 assist per set average.  Lech also has 19 kills on the season, and averages 1.58 kills in 12 sets.
 
On defense, Valerie Blake has 32 digs, with a 2.67 dig per set.  Becerra and Makayla Bell lead the Green and Gold with 10 blocks each, with nine assisted and one solo.  Bell averages 1.11 blocks per set, while Becerra averages .83 per set.

The Yellow Jackets return home to kick off conference play against Westminster College and Dixie State on Sept. 7 and 8.  First serve is set at 7 p.m. against Westminster at the Donald E. Young Center.
