Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State volleyball team falls, 3-0, to Dixie State to complete the opening weekend of conference play. The Trailblazers won by scores of 25-23, 26-24, and 25-21.
"I was pleased with the effort and attitude of our team today," said head coach
Kristin Carmichael. "We still have to play more consistent and limit opponent runs to win."
The Green and Gold attacked early in the first set, going on a 4-0 run to lead the Trailblazers, 4-0. A solo block from
Carisa Becerra, a kill from
Laurel Lech, and an attack error kept the momentum going with a score of 15-12 in favor of the Yellow Jackets. Dixie State went on a 6-0 run to take a 21-19 lead and eventually win the set, 25-23.
With back-and-forth action in the second set, neither team set a lasting lead. Dixie State took advantage of an attack error to go ahead of the Yellow Jackets with a 9-5 lead. Three attack errors pushed the Green and Gold ahead, 19-17. A service ace by
Ellise Lech, and another kill for Becerra helped the Yellow Jackets take a 23-19 lead. The Trailblazers went on a 7-2 run to take the set, 26-24.
Leading the match, Dixie State grabbed an early 8-4 lead over the Yellow Jackets. Midway through the set, the Green and Gold tied the score up, 13-13, but the Trailblazers took back the lead to win the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-0.
The Yellow Jackets head south to play New Mexico Highlands and Colorado State – Pueblo on Sept. 14 and 15. First serve is set at 7 p.m. in Las Vegas, Nev., on Friday.
