BILLINGS, Mont. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Frontier Preview Invite, hosted by Rocky Mountain College on Friday morning. The women's team took first, while the men finished second.
"I believe today was a solid opener for both of our teams. The first race of the season is always a tough rust buster. We came to this meet for the competition and it did not disappoint," said assistant coach Scott Foley. "Going forward, we definitely have some areas we need to work on, but I am excited about the potential both teams have this season."
The Yellow Jacket women won the meet with 49 points. Carroll, who was second, finished with 67 points. The Green and Gold were led by Nicole Allerdings. The senior from Plevna, Montana, was fourth overall in 19:53.30. Xiomara Robinson (20:01.00) and Ruby Lindquist (20:06.70) finished in sixth and seventh, respectively, while Abbie Fredrick took 11th in 20:29.40 to round out the scoring. Kelsey Van Den Hemel, Erica Dykstra, and Taylor Lundquist, finished in 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, respectively. Reghan Worley from Carroll won the race in 19:16.70.
On the men's side, Jake Iverson paced the second place Yellow Jackets. The senior finished in 26:53.10, in third and just two seconds behind the second-place finisher. Keith Osowski took fifth in 26:56.60 and Jordan Theisen was sixth in 27:05.50. Freshman Collin Brauer was 16th in his collegiate debut, and Noah Bordewyk placed 28th in the race. Lewis-Clark State College took the team title helped by the first two men's finishers, Chase Barrow (26:45.20) and Cole Olsen (26:51.10).
The Green and Gold will next return to Spearfish to host the Fourth Annual Gage McSpadden Memorial on September 20. The race will be held at Spearfish Canyon Country Club.
