Black Hills State University women's golf is set for the 2020-21 season with its first event only two weeks away.
The Yellow Jackets return four golfers from last season's shortened season. The group will be anchored by
Nicole Klungness, who enters her sophomore season after leading the team with a stroke average of 89.38 last year and was named WGCA All-American Scholar.
BHSU also returns
Sarah Galles and
Jocelyn Olson, holding last year's second (92.67) and fourth (92.88) lowest stroke averages on the team, respectively. Senior
Megan Zigray will also be returning, although did not compete last season due to the cancelation of the spring season.
A key member from last year's squad lost to graduation,
Hayley Franke, ended her time as a Yellow Jacket second all-time with a stroke average of 92.47 (minimum 30 rounds). However, three new additions, including junior transfer
Jade Burr will have a chance to make their own impact.
Aside from Burr, freshmen
Ashtyn Swigart and
Mycah Wainscott round out the newcomers.
"The way our season ended last year was incredibly tough on our team," said head coach
Kelly Welker. "The team worked so hard leading up to the spring season, and they were ready to get out there and play well. I'm so excited for this year because we have more depth on our team. I believe that anyone on our roster can go out and shoot the scores we need to be competitive."
