Brookings, S.D. – Black Hills State rodeo finished up a great start to the spring season with both the men's and women's teams placing first at the Jackrabbit Stampede over the weekend.
Emma Ohm was the women's All-Around champion, while
Austin Madison took home the honor on the men's side.
Women
The Yellow Jackets had five of the top six finishers in the Goat Tying, led by Cashae Mcgee who placed second with a 15.1 on two. Following her was
Riley Donnelly in third with a 16.0 on two,
Karli Verhulst in fourth with a 17.3 on two,
Haley Husted in fifth with a 17.4 on two, and
Emma Ohm in sixth with a 17.7 on two.
Ohm won Breakaway Roping with a 4.9 on two while
Sydney Theobald came in second with a 6.2 on two and
Tayla Thorstenson had a 7.7 on two to place third as the Yellow Jackets swept the top three spots.
Brooklyn Hanson also had a great showing, placing fifth in the long go with 3.6.
In the Barrel Race, Hanson tied for first with a 26.65 on two, and
Tessa Caspers finished fifth with a 26.78 on two.
Men
Austin Madison excelled over the weekend, winning both Steer Wrestling with a 12.8 on two, and Tie Down Roping with a 20.0 on two.
Riley Staton finished second in Tie Down Roping with a 22.9 on two, and also placed fourth in Team Roping with a 6.0 on one.
Rounding out Team Roping was
Jayme Peterson who placed second with a 20.3 on two, and
Clayton Backhaus who finished fifth with a 7.1 on one.
