SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's rodeo teams hosted the annual Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede this past weekend at Seven Down Arenas, looking to position themselves to punch tickets to the CNFR this upcoming weekend following the final rodeo of the regular season. The Yellow Jacket cowgirls finished second as a team with 258.33 points and were led by a 1-2 finish in barrel racing by
Jayda Reinert and
Sierra Steele. For Reinert, who has been top-5 nationally in the event, it was her sixth title of the year in barrel racing, while Steele moved into second place in the region. On the men's side,
Luke Mavity continued his push for a return trip to the CNFR as he notched his third consecutive top-5 finish of the spring in tie down roping, leading the BHSU cowboys to a seventh place team finish with 125 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED - MEN'S RODEO
- In steer wrestling, Terran Talsma earned a seventh place finish with a total time of 20.1 seconds and 20 points. He held the fifth-fastest time of the long go round at 5.6 seconds and notched a 14.5 second run in the short go.
- Luke Mavity continues to make ground on the final spot to the CNFR in tie down roping, securing his third consecutive top-5 finish of the spring in the event with a total time of 26.1 seconds for third place and tallying 105 points. He tied for second in the long go with a time of 11.3 seconds and was fifth in the short go with a time of 14.8 seconds.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S RODEO
- Haley Husted positioned herself to be within striking distance for a national qualifier spot in goat tying entering the final rodeo of the regular season, notching a fourth place finish with a total time of 13.4 seconds and 85 points. She clocked times of 6.8 seconds in the long go and 6.6 seconds in the short go, tied for the fastest time in the final round. Capri Cammack also added a top-10 finish in the event, securing an overall time of 14.3 seconds to tie for sixth place and earn 3.33 points for the weekend. She recorded times of 7.2 seconds on the long go and 7.1 seconds on the short go.
- In the breakaway roping, Tyra Stromer qualified for the short go with a time of 3.4 seconds in the long go, however, she was unable to record a time in the final round and finished tenth with a time of 103.4.
- The Yellow Jackets notched a 1-2 finish in barrel racing, with Jayda Reinert racing to her sixth title of the year in the event and first of the spring with a total time of 27.91 seconds to earn 170 points for the weekend. A top-5 barrel racer in the nation, she clocked the second-fastest long go time at 14.00 seconds and held the fastest short go time at 13.91 seconds. Finishing second in the event and moving into second in the region was Sierra Steele, who collected 160 points on the weekend with a total time of 28.02 seconds. She won the long go with a time of 13.92 seconds and was second in the short go with a time of 14.10 seconds. Also earning a top-10 finish was Kamry Davis, who was sixth with a total time of 33.48 seconds while tallying 25 points. She qualified for the short go with a time of 14.31 seconds in the long go and then finished tied for fifth in the final round with a time of 19.17 seconds.Â
