Yellow Jacket Rodeo Set for Final Fall Event at Mystics Stampede Rodeo

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State men's and women's rodeo teams will complete their fall schedule this weekend as they travel north to North Dakota for the second time this year when they compete at the Mystics Stampede Rodeo, hosted by Bismarck State College. The event gets underway on Friday, October 18, with barrel racing slack at 11 a.m. MT / 12 p.m. CT at Dale Pahlke Arena in Mandan, North Dakota. The Yellow Jacket women's team will look to close out the year on a high note as they go for their fifth rodeo win in six tries.

BLACK HILLS STATE MEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
  • The Black Hills State men's rodeo team enters this weekend as the No. 6 team in the updated NIRA Great Plains Region Standings with 586 points as of October 14. In the most recent rodeo at the Triton Stampede, hosted by Iowa Central Community College, the Yellow Jackets did not record a team score.
  • Luke Mavity currently ranks fifth in the region and 22nd nationally in tie down roping with 235 points. So far this year he has posted a second place finish at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, a fifth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, and a sixth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1.
  • In steer wrestling Gabe Glines is just outside of the top-10 in the region's standings, ranking 12th with 117 points during the 2024-25 season so far. He's tacked on a third place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1 and a ninth place finish at the Blue Hawk Stampede in the event.
  • Jess Harper remains in the top-5 of the region in the team roping heeler standings, ranking No. 4 in the Great Plains Region and No. 21 nationally in the event with 214 points. He is coming off a tenth place finish in the event at the Triton Stampede where he teamed up with Colton Michalek of Mitchel Technical College and they posted a time of 15.1 on the long go. Additionally, he's been a part of one team roping victory as he paired up with Colton Zubach of Dickinson State University at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2.
  • Glen Lammers is in his 17th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket men's and women's rodeo program.
#2 BLACK HILLS STATE WOMEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
  • The Black Hills State women's rodeo team enters this weekend as the No. 1 team in the Great Plains Region and No. 2 nationally in the most recent NIRA standings with 1,694.83 points as of October 14.
  •  The Yellow Jackets reclaimed their spot atop the team standings in their most recent outing as they claimed their fourth rodeo victory of season as they won the Triton Stampede, hosted by Iowa Central Community College, with 360 points. BHSU has also earned team titles this year at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, and the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2.
  • Cashae McGee ranks No. 1 in the Great Plains Region and is No. 2 nationally in the Women's All-Around standings with 680 points. She's earned one all-around title thus far in 2024, occurring at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2. Additionally, Emma Ohm has earned one all-around title, which happened at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1.
  • McGee is also currently third in the region and 16th nationally in the barrel racing event, totaling 292 points so far this season after placing fourth at the Triton Stampede with a time of 14.1 seconds on two go arounds. She also earned a third place finish at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo and the Mid-Plains Stampede Rodeo #1, and fourth at the Mid-Plains Stampede Rodeo #2. Also ranked within the region in the event for Black Hills State is Sierra Steele who is fourth with 210 points, Jayda Reinert who is tenth with 125 points, and Adeline Norstegaard is 14th with 90 points.
  • Ohm currently leads the region in breakaway roping and is second nationally, totaling 435 points through five rodeos so far this season. She has recorded a pair of titles in the event with wins at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo and the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, while also adding a fifth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, and a seventh place finish at the Triton Stampede. Briley Anderson is also ranked within the region, sitting 13th with 96.5 points this year.
  • Ranking first and second in the region as well as ninth and tenth respectively in the nation in goat tying is Raylee Fagerhaug and McGee who have totaled 393.3 and 388 points. Fagerhaug and McGee have each posted a win in the event with Raylee securing the win at last weekend's Triton Stampede while Cashae earned the victory at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2. An additional four athletes within the top-15 include Ohm who is ninth with 141.5 points, Capri Cammack is tenth with 90 points, Haley Husted is 12th with 85 points, and Linley Schmitz is 14th with 55 points.
  • Glen Lammers is in his 17th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket men's and women's rodeo program.
