SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's rodeo team will continue their busy fall schedule in the opening weeks of the season as they travel to central Nebraska for the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo in North Platte. The event will be a double-rodeo, which will see competitors compete in just one long go during rodeo #1, followed by a long go and a top-10 short go in rodeo #2. The action gets underway at 6 p.m. (MST) on Thursday night in Wild West Arena as the NIRA's Great Plains Region embarks on their second weekend of competition.

BLACK HILLS STATE MEN'S RODEO STORYLINES

• The Black Hills State men's rodeo team opened up the 2024-25 year with a seventh place finish and 135 points at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo last weekend.
• After placing 24^th at nationals last year, Luke Mavity opened his season with a second place finish in tie down roping as he posted a time of 26.7 on two go arounds at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo. In last year's Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo, he earned a third and seventh place finish in the tie down roping events.
• At last year's Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo, the Yellow Jackets earned a pair of second place finishes as they earned 500 points in rodeo #1 and then followed with 390 points in rodeo #2. BHSU saw two team members place in the top-3 of the men's all-around as Joe Hannum earned the win while Austin Madison finished third.
• Jess Harper is the only other returner on the men's side to have competed in the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo as he collected a fourth place finish in the tie down roping event in last year's rodeo #2.
• Glen Lammers is in his 17^th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket men's and women's rodeo program.

BLACK HILLS STATE WOMEN'S RODEO STORYLINES

• The Black Hills State women's rodeo team defended their title in the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo last weekend, tallying 350 points for the victory.
• Highlighting last weekend's rodeo was Emma Ohm who won the breakaway roping event with a time of 6.6 seconds on two go arounds. Briley Anderson also earned a third place finish in the event with a time of 7.1 seconds on two go arounds.
• The Yellow Jackets additionally saw a pair of second place finishes in their trip to Wisconsin as Raylee Fagerhaug notched a runner-up finish in goat tying with a time of 15.1 seconds on two go arounds, and Sierra Steele was second in barrel racing with a time of 33.70 seconds. Additionally, Cashae McGee and Jayda Reinert were third and fourth in barrel racing with times of 33.75 seconds and 33.85 seconds respectively.
• At the 2023 Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo, BHSU earned a fifth place and second place finish with 135.50 and 235 points respectively in rodeos #1 and #2.
• Last year's top performances in North Platte included Ohm earning the women's all-around title in rodeo #1, while in rodeo #2 Karli Verhulst and Jayme Peterson earned second and fourth place finishes in the women's all-around.
• Glen Lammers enters his 17^th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket men's and women's rodeo program.
