SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Back Hills State University women's soccer team will look to regroup in their second game of the weekend in Kearney, Nebraska, as they are set to face their second MIAA opponent, the host school of Nebraska-Kearney. The Yellow Jackets and Lopers are slated for a 1 p.m. MT / 2 p.m. CT kick-off at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium on Sunday, September 22.

BLACK HILLS STATE STORYLINES
- Black Hills State enters Sunday's contest with a record of 0-3-2 following a 6-0 loss to No. 20 Washburn on Friday afternoon in the opening game of the Nebraska-Kearney Soccer Invite.
- BHSU has recorded 48 shots, 21 shots on goal, eight corner kicks, and 25 saves. On the other hand, their opponents have notched 14 goals, nine assists, 81 shots, 39 shots on goal, 32 corner kicks, and 21 saves.
- Leading the offensive attack for the Green & Gold is Whitney Hansen and Hailey Warren who have tallied six and five shot attempts this year. Warren is one of three players who have placed three of their shot attempts on target, joined by Bailey Smith and Katy Vinton.
- Spearheaded by Allie Brown who has played in 63 matches while making 54 starts during her career, the Black Hills State back line has recorded two shutouts this season against Carroll and Minnesota Crookston. The pair of clean sheets is already tied for the second most in a single season in program history, matching 2019 and is only two shy of the school record mark of four set in 2023.
- While Brown has played 438 minutes of action this year, other notable defenders include Ainsley Wilson and Bria Sargent who have recorded 413 and 249 minutes of playing time respectively thus far in 2024.
- In goal this season, Makayla Dannelly has started and appeared in three games, making 19 saves while allowing a 3.00 goals against average. She has one shutout which occurred against CC. Zoe Wiggall has started and appeared in two games, making six saves while allowing a 3.33 goals allowed percentage. Wiggall and Allanah Facio combined for a shutout aginst UMC.
- John Hutchison is in his second season as the head coach of the Yellow Jackets.Â
NEBRASKA-KEARNEY STORYLINES
- Nebraska-Kearney enters Sunday's contest with a record of 4-0-1 following a 3-1 victory over Western Colorado on Friday afternoon.
- UNK's lone tie of the season occurred in a scoreless match against No. 23 Concordia St. Paul.
- Following a 3-13-2 (2-7-2 MIAA) mark a year ago, the Lopers have been picked to finish tenth in the MIAA Women's Soccer Preseason Poll.
- During the 2024 season the UNK has recorded 11 goals, eight assists, 84 shots, 45 shots on goal, 26 corner kicks, and 21 saves. On the other hand, their opponents have notched two goals, 33 shots, 23 shots on goal, 12 corner kicks, and 34 saves.
- A trio of Lopers have found the back of the net twice this season, as Gracie Perez, Daniella Iaquinta, and Jordan Renard lead the team with a pair of goals.
- Kea Barnes has recorded a team-leading two assists this season for UNK.
- Katie Pagel leads the Nebraska-Kearney defense, having played and started in all five matches for a total of 360 minutes. Additionally, Illiana Wurzbacher has recorded 292 minutes of playing time on the Loper back line that has posted three shutouts this season.
- In goal for UNK will be Susie Bovaird who has started and appeared in all five matches, recording 20 saves and a 0.42 goals against average. She has posted a pair of shutouts and combined with Mackenzie Smith for one more.
- Rob Breton is in his third season as the head coach at Nebraska-Kearney.
