HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSU Denver won five of the first seven points in set one to take an early 5-2 lead, but after that, BHSU fought back to eventually close the gap and tie it at nine a piece with a block by Randi Wellhoefer and Jaeda Davis-Golliher. BHSU stayed in it until it was 12-12, but almost all of their points came from either service errors or attack errors by MSUD. Eight of the 12 points had come that way for the Yellow Jackets. Eventually, MSUD stopped making errors and went on a 13-3 run to end the set. This included a five-point run, a four-point run, and a three-point run with Karyna Werley ending the set with a kill to win 25-15 and taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
- The kills came early and often for BHSU in the second set. After falling behind 4-2 to begin the set, Wellhoefer got two kills in a row and an attack error to take a 5-4 lead. It went back and forth following with Peyton McLeod, Wellhoefer, Freeland, and Carsyn Mettler all getting kills for BHSU to take a 9-7 lead. The Roadrunners would win six of the next eight to take a 13-11 lead before BH would win three in a row with kills by Davis-Golliher and Izabel Abril to make it 14-13. The runs would continue as MSUD would win four in a row before BHSU won three in a row with Wellhoefer getting two more kills and Zoie Husman also adding one to make it 17 apiece. The Roadrunners would win six of the next seven to make it 23-18 and then Freeland would get three kills to help the Green and Gold go on a 5-1 run to make it 24-23 before Alyssa Boyte ended the set with a kill at 25-23.
- The Yellow Jackets started the third set with a 3-2 lead before MSUD blew it open with a 10-1 run to make it 12-4. The Yellow Jackets would win three in a row to cut it to 12-7 before the Roadrunners won 11 of the next 15 points to make it 23-11. Mianna Cardenas would get a kill and BH would get an attack error to make it 23-13 before a service error and an attack error ended the match at 25-13.
