Yellow Jackets Drop Match to Regis in Five-Set Thriller

DENVER, Colo.- The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets were unable to finish off the Regis Rangers, as they held a 2-1 set lead before Regis took the last two sets to come from behind and give BHSU the loss. The Yellow Jackets were in control of this game for most of it, before a dominant fifth set by the Rangers ended BHSU's hopes of two straight RMAC wins and their first win versus Regis since 2013.

After BHSU kept their four-point lead at 10-6, Regis won 15 of the next 17 points to take a 21-12 lead in the first set which included seven aces. BHSU and Regis would split points back and forth to get the lead down to six at 24-18 before Brooke Sanford got the kill to end the first set and give Regis the 1-0 lead.
  • The two teams would start the second set 5-5 before Regis won three in a row to make it 8-5. Four separate Jackets would get a kill in a 7-2 run that gave BH a 12-10 lead. Regis would win five of the next six before BHSU would take three of the next four and tie it at 16. The Green and Gold would then go on a 9-1 run with seven kills from five different Jackets to win the set 25-18 and tie it at 1-1.
  • BHSU started the third set with a 4-3 lead before the Rangers won six in a row to take a 9-4 lead. BHSU would get it back to one at 10-9 with two kills from Jaeda Davis-Golliher. Regis would win five of the next eight to take a 15-12 lead before BHSU would win six in a row and ten of the next 12 to take a 22-17 lead. This run included two kills from Randi Wellhoefer and three blocks from Peyton McLeod. The Rangers would win three of the next five to get to 20 points, before Carsyn Mettler ended the set with a kill to give BHSU a 2-1 lead and put them one set away from taking the match.
  • Regis started the fourth set on a 6-2 run before BHSU answered with a 6-1 run to take an 8-7 lead.
