MITCHELL, S.D.- Katie Jorgenson shot a 76 (+4) to take the lead heading into the second round in Mitchell. The Yellow Jackets have three individuals competing in Mitchell at the DWU Spring Golf Invite. All three of their girls are currently sitting in the top ten of the 38 player tournament, and two of the girls just destroyed their career-low rounds in the first round today. The Yellow Jackets shot a combined 237 (+20) on the day with all three girls shooting 82 or better.
HOW IT HAPPENED
•  Â
Katie Jorgenson took the lead after one round at the DWU invitational, she destroyed her previous low round, which was a 79 (+7) by shooting a 76 (+4) at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell today. She made four birdies and seven pars in the 18 holes and shot a 37 (+1) on the front nine. It is tied for the fifth best 18-hole round in BHSU history. She currently holds a one-shot lead.
•  Â
Leyni Stavola is next and is sitting in a tie for fourth after shooting a career-low 79 (+7) on 18 today. Her previous career-low was an 81 (+9) that she shot at the Swan Memorial earlier this year. Stavola only had two bogeys on the front nine and seven pars to shoot a 38 (+2). She then parred five of the last six holes to shot 41 (+5) on the back. She is three shots back of Jorgenson for the lead at Lakeview.
•   Finally,
Olivia McCandless followed up her third-place finish at the Hardrocker Spring Invite with an 82 (+10), which puts her in a tie for ninth place. The +10 is only one back of her career-low under par round, which she shot last week at the HSI. She, opposite of the other two, actually played better on the back shooting a 39 (+3) on the back with only three bogeys and six pars. She is tied with three other girls at 82.
