Black Hills State Announces 2025-26 Men’s Basketball Schedule

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball program and head coach Ryan Thompson announced their 2025-26 schedule on Friday afternoon. The slate will feature 28 games, including 11 played within the confines of A2 Arena. Among the top home match-ups include the annual rivalry games with South Dakota Mines and Chadron State, a contest against reigning RMAC champions Colorado School of Mines, and a face off against NCAA Tournament qualifier Regis.

The season tips off once again against the Lone Star Conference pair of Sul Ross State and Texas Tyler in the season-opening conference challenge hosted by MSU Denver at the Auraria Events Center in Denver, Colorado. The Yellow Jackets first match-up will be against SRSU on Sunday, November 16, while the second match-up of the weekend against UTT will be on Monday, November 17. The Green & Gold will then remain on the road when they make the trip to Moorhead, Minnesota, for the seventh annual East-West Challenge, seeking revenge against NSIC foes MSU Moorhead and Augustana after last years contests. The weekend begins on Friday, November 21, against the host Dragons in Nemzek Fieldhouse, and then comes to an end the ensuing day on Saturday, November 22, against the Vikings. The final full weekend on the road to begin the year comes when Black Hills State visits Bismarck, North Dakota, for games against Minot State and UMary on Thanksgiving weekend. The first game of the weekend will be against the Beavers on Friday, November 28, and the second will be against the host Marauders on Saturday, November 29, in the McDowell Activity Center.

RMAC action gets underway when the Yellow Jackets end a stretch of seven consecutive games away from home to begin the season when they make the short drive down I-90 to visit rivals South Dakota Mines on Tuesday, December 2. Later on in the week BHSU makes their home debut against another regional rival, playing host to Chadron State on Thursday, December 4. The ensuing weekend the Green & Gold will remain at home to continue conference play against UCCS on Thursday, December 11, and Colorado Christian on Saturday, December 13. BHSU concludes play in the 2025 calendar year with their final game of a 4-game homestand when they welcome Dickinson State to A2 Arena for a winter break contest on Friday, December 19.

Black Hills State will ring in the new year with a visit to in-state foe Northern State in Aberdeen, South Dakota, on Thursday, January 1, for the final non-conference contest of the regular season. The Yellow Jackets then jump right back into league play with a trip to the Denver metro area, visiting Regis on Thursday, January 8, and MSU Denver on Saturday, January 10.

The Green & Gold return home to Spearfish for the first time in the 2026 calendar year on Thursday, January 15, against New Mexico Highlands, and then close the week on Saturday, January 17, against Fort Lewis. A 3-game stretch of games away from home starts with a trip to Grand Junction, Colorado, on Thursday, January 22, with a match-up at Colorado Mesa, and then continues on Saturday, January 24, in Gunnison, Colorado, against Western Colorado. The road swing comes to a close on Tuesday, January 27, as BHSU visits Chadron State. The lone home match-up in a stretch of three weeks will be a renewal of the west river rivalry against South Dakota Mines on Saturday, January 31. The final month of the regular season begins with another road trip to the Centennial State as the Yellow Jackets visit CSU Pueblo on Thursday, February 5, and UCCS on Saturday, February 7.

Black Hills State will be able to call the friendly confines of A2 Arena home for four of the final six contests of the regular season, beginning by welcoming reigning RMAC champions, Colorado School of Mines to town on Thursday, February 12, followed by a match-up with Regis on Saturday, February 14. The final road trip of the year will start with a visit to Alamosa, Colorado, and Adams State on Thursday, February 19, and end with a match-up in Las Vegas, New Mexico, against New Mexico Highlands on Saturday, February 21. BHSU then returns home on Thursday, February 26, against Westminster, before closing the regular season in A2 Arena against Colorado Mesa on Saturday, February 28.

The RMAC Men's Basketball Tournament is slated for quarterfinal round contests to be hosted by the top four seeds on Tuesday, March 3, and then the semifinals and championship games will be played at the highest remaining seed on Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7. The NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament will be hosted at the top seed with the first round to be played on Saturday, March 14, the second round on Sunday, March 15, and the regional final/Sweet 16 contest to be played on Tuesday, March 17.
