MINOT, N.D.- Minot State and competing head coaches announced The 1
st International Bank Homecoming Classic All-Tournament Team on Sunday. Among those honorees were three Black Hills State Yellow Jackets:
Emily Freeland,
Sydnie Tuioti-Mariner, and
Randi Wellhoefer. These three helped lead BHSU to a 3-1 record at the tournament and created a bounceback weekend for the Yellow Jackets.
Emily Freeland was the kill leader once again for the Green and Gold. She had 41 kills and 46 points in 14 sets. 15 of those kills came in the matchup versus Manitoba and 11 of those 15 came in the second set of the matchup. In that same game, she only had three errors on 27 attempts with a hitting percentage of .444. She had a .283 hitting percentage over the weekend. Along with the kills, she had three aces, five assists, 26 digs, three blocks, and 83 receptions. She now ranks 76
th in the country in kills.
Sydnie Tuioti-Mariner led the team with 62 assists and had a .356 set percentage. In the matchup versus UMary, she had 25 assists, and she hit the ten-assist mark in each match of the tourney. Tuioti-Mariner also added 24 digs over the weekend. In the matchup versus Minot State, she had five aces, all of which occurred in the second set.
Randi Wellhoefer had 29 kills for BHSU. She had nine in the matchup versus Minot State which was her tournament high. She had 29 digs for the weekend and had 13 of them in the UMary matchup. She led the team in receptions with 88 and had five total blocks for a points score of 31.5 points in the tournament.
These three and the Yellow Jackets will now head into conference play this coming weekend.
