Yellow Jackets Begin 2025 Fall Slate at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's and women's rodeo season will once again begin at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, with the 61st edition of the event set to take place on Friday, September 5, and Saturday, September 6, at the University of Wisconsin River Falls Lab Farm 1. The Yellow Jacket cowgirls have opened the season with a win in the UW-River Falls rodeo each of the last two years, and they will once again look to defend their title in hopes of sitting atop the regional standings come year end.

BLACK HILLS STATE MEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
  • The Black Hills State men's rodeo team concluded the 2024-25 season as the No. 6 ranked team in the NIRA Great Plains Region standings with 1,071.0 points.
  • The Yellow Jackets lose their lone national qualifier from last season but has CNFR experience with Luke Mavity who appeared at nationals in 2024.
  • Mavity concluded last year with the No. 10 ranking in the region in tie down roping with 235 points. He recorded a second place finish in the event at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, a fifth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, and a sixth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1.
  • Glen Lammers is in his 18th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket men's and women's rodeo program.
BLACK HILLS STATE WOMEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
  • The Black Hills State women's rodeo team captured their second straight and tenth Great Plains Region title in the last 14 seasons with 2,969.83 points during the 2024-25 season. Additionally, the Yellow Jackets qualified five for last spring's College National Finals Rodeo, and return Emma Ohm, Haley Husted, Sierra Steele, and Raylee Fagerhaug.
  • BHSU claimed six rodeo team titles in the Great Plains Region last year, winning the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2, Triton Stampede, Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede, and the Cornhusker College Rodeo.
  • Also, in the all-around, Emma Ohm earned her second title in the event of the season at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede, securing 190 points with 110 points by way of team roping and 80 by breakaway roping. She claimed her one other title in the event at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1.
  • Sierra Steele clinched a spot to Casper on her final go at the Cornhusker College Rodeo year, finishing the season with a point total to 460.0 to rank No. 3 in the Great Plains Region. In 2024-25 she notched three top-3 finishes of the year, posting finishes of second place at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo and third at the Triton Stampede and the Cornhusker College Rodeo.
  • Ohm captured the Great Plains Region title in breakaway roping and entered the CNFR ranked No. 2 nationally with 700.0 points last season. She secured the regional title with six top-5 finishes, notching a pair of titles in the event with wins at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo and the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1, a third place finish at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede, a fourth place finish at the Jackrabbit Stampede, and a fifth place finish at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2 and the Cornhusker College Rodeo. Additionally, she earned two all-around titles at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1 and the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede.
  • Haley Husted ended the 2024-25 season ranked No. 3 in the region and No. 21 in the nation in goat tying with 715.0 points. She earned two titles last season at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede and the Mystics Stampede Rodeo, to go along with second place at the Cyclone Stampede, third at the Jackrabbit Stampede, and fourth at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2 and the Cornhusker College Rodeo.
  • Ranking No. 4 in the Great Plains Region and No. 23 nationally in goat tying in 2024-25 was Raylee Fagerhaug with 663.3 points. She earned wins in the event at the Triton Stampede and the Cornhusker College Rodeo, was second place at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo and the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2 and was third place at the Blue Hawk Stampede.
