Husted, Reinert Post Top-20 Times in Monday’s First Go Slack at CNFR

CASPER, Wyo. - The Black Hills State University women's rodeo team saw their final three cowgirls begin their week at the 2026 College National Finals Rodeo on Monday morning in slack action. Highlighting the performances were a pair of top-20 finishes in the first go of goat tying and barrel racing by Haley Husted and Jayda Reinert respectively. BHSU will have three of their four athletes within the top-20 of their respective events entering the second go on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sierra Steele began the day with a 14.45 second run in barrel racing, placing her 28th in the first go on Monday morning to kickoff her fourth career CNFR appearance.
  • Also in barrel racing, Jayda Reinert, recorded a 14.24 second run in her CNFR debut, earning her an 18th place finish in the first go.
  • Making her second career appearance at the CNFR, Haley Husted wrapped up the day's action for the Yellow Jackets with a 6.5 second run in goat tying, tying for 17th place in the first go.

NOTES

  • Steele's 14.45 second run in the barrel racing was her fastest as a Yellow Jacket at the CNFR, besting last year's 14.57 second run in the first go that earned her a tie for tenth place in the round.
  • In her collegiate rodeo career, Steele has posted five runs of 14.50 seconds or better in her four CNFR barrel racing appearances.
  • Reinert's first go time of 14.24 seconds in barrel racing was the fastest by a Yellow Jacket in the event at the CNFR since Taylor Hanson ran a 14.17 second third go for a fourth place finish in the round in 2021.
  • Husted's 6.5 second run was her fastest at the CNFR, besting a time of 8.1 seconds in last year's second go of the goat tying.
  • Husted's 6.5 second run in the opening round of goat tying was the fastest by a BHSU athlete in the event at the CNFR since 2023 when Cashae McGee posted a 6.5 second time for a 13th place finish in the second go.
