Husted Punches Ticket to Saturday Championship Short-Go Round

CASPER, Wyo. - The Black Hills State University women's rodeo team was well represented in the fourth performance of the 2026 College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR), with three of their four qualified cowgirls competing in front of a packed crowd at the Ford Wyoming Center on Friday night. Highlighting the three competing was graduate student Haley Husted, who punched her ticket to the championship short-go as she currently sits tenth overall in the goat tying. Additionally, Great Plains Region barrel racing champion, Jayda Reinert, secured a top-20 finish in the event in her national's debut.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The action on Friday night began with Emma Ohm attempting to secure her spot in Saturday's final round of breakaway roping, however, her week came to end as she was unable to post a time in the third round. Overall, she finishes her third CNFR appearance with a 30th place finish and a time of 5.6 seconds as she posted times in two of her three rounds.
  • Haley Husted was able to extend her stay at her second CNFR appearance, clocking a 6.7 second run for a tie for 12th place in the third go. The time positioned her within the top-12 qualifying for the championship short-go, currently sitting in tenth place after three rounds with a total time of 19.8 seconds.
  • Jayda Reinert, who was also looking to punch a ticket to the championship round, came up 0.35 seconds short of making the top-12 as she clocked a time of 14.32 seconds for 39th place in the third go. Overall, she secured a top-20 finish on the week with a 19th place finish and time of 42.71 seconds in three go arounds.

NOTES

  • Husted becomes the first Yellow Jacket to qualify for the championship short-go since 2024 when both Austin Madison (steer wrestling) and Clayton Brackhause (team roping) each made the fourth and final round.
  • Husted become the first Yellow Jacket to qualify for the championship short-go in goat tying since 2017 when Carlee Johnston reached the final round. Johnston finished third in the fourth go and tied for fourth overall in the event that year.
  • Husted became the first Yellow Jacket since Cashae McGee in 2023 to post three sub-7.0 second rounds in goat tying at the CNFR.
  • Reinert's 19th place barrel racing finish marked back-to-back years the Yellow Jackets had a top-20 finisher in the event. In 2025 Sierra Steele placed 15th and Cashae McGee placed 20th.
  • Reinert's time of 42.71 seconds in three go arounds was the fastest of any Yellow Jacket in barrel racing at the CNFR since Kristi Steffes clocked a time of 42.24 seconds to reach the championship short-go and eventually win the national title in 2016.
