RAPID CITY, S.D. - The Black Hills State cross country teams previewed the site of the RMAC Cross Country Championships last Friday night, competing at the Bauer XC Classic hosted by South Dakota Mines. The Yellow Jacket women finished third as a team with 55 points, highlighted by a top-3 finish by senior Sierra Hopp who made her season debut.
HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
- Making her season debut, Sierra Hopp led the way for Black Hills State, posting a third place finish and 4K time of 15:47.2.
- Zena Tapia was the next to cross the finish line for the Yellow Jackets, recording a career-best 4K time of 16:20.1 for 12th place.
- Moments later it was a quartet of Yellow Jackets to cross the finish line as Aubrey Klesser was 14th with a time of 16:31.3, Kadence Baun was 15th with a time of 16:32.3, Madison Zander was 16th with a time of 16:37.1, and Shelby Zickefoose was 17th with a time of 16:43.6.
- Rounding out the BHSU lineup was Alyssa Brandt and Morgan Sumption who were 21st and 25th respectively with times of 17:35.8 and 19:00.0.

The Black Hills State men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action on Friday, September 25, at the Augustana Invitational. The meet will begin with the women's race at 9:15 a.m. MT/10:15 a.m. CT and the men's race to follow at 10 a.m. MT/11 a.m. CT at the Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
