Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Yellow Jacket Attack Remains Hot in 4-0 Shutout of MSU Moorhead

BILLINGS, Mont. - The Black Hills State University women's soccer program completed a 2-0 weekend at the Rimrock Classic at the Yellowjacket Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon, remaining unbeaten and extending the best start to a season in school history with a 4-0 victory over MSU Moorhead. The win featured a pair of program milestones, with Ivy Agee tallying two goals to tie the single season goals record (5) and Rian Barthel capturing her sixth career complete game shutout to tie the Yellow Jacket career record. The Green & Gold for the third time in four games this season held the advantage in shots (16-12) and shots on goal (7-3), as they scored twice in both the first and second halves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Black Hills State showed their offensive attack early, posting a pair of shots on target in the first 11 minutes of action by Ivy Agee just 25 seconds in and Kylea Becker in the 11th minute. It was then Ally Boysen who delivered her second game-winning goal of the season, becoming just the second player to record multiple in a single season in program history, as she outran defenders for a one-on-one opportunity and placed the ball into the right-side of the net past Emilia Kristensen following passes forward from Mirabel Shellabarger and Aubri Roth in the 15th minute.
  • Then in the 23rd minute it was an errant pass from Kristensen attempting to pass the ball out of the penalty box for the Dragons that went directly to Agee who proceeded to fire the ball into a wide-open net for a 2-0 Yellow Jacket advantage.
  • Following the pair of BHSU goals, Rian Barthel did her part to keep MSUM off the scoreboard with two saves in the opening 45 minutes. First after a cleared corner kick attempt, Sophie Thompson sent in a long shot attempt from the right side of the field that Barthel hauled in out of the air in the 26th minute. Then Thompson again recorded a shot on frame in the 43rd minute, this time placing a low-bouncing shot from the left side of the field towards the near post that Barthel pounced on to keep the score 2-0 entering the halftime break.
  • Barthel made her third and final save of the match in the 58th minute, snagging a shot fired towards the center of the net from Clara Butler after she split a pair of Yellow Jacket defenders to work her way into the penalty box for the shot attempt.
  • Kalissa Weich scored her first goal as a Yellow Jacket in the 73rd minute, taking a long pass forward from Agee who won possession of the ball in the defensive zone and outrunning the defense for a one-on-one opportunity with Kristensen and firing the shot into the right corner of the net to make it a 3-0 game.
  • Black Hills State notched their fourth goal of the match in the 81st minute as Agee tied the school single season record with her fifth of the year. The play began with Jazlyn Olson winning possession of the ball and then receiving a long pass back up the field from Weich before she sent a pass across the field to Agee who slipped through the Dragon defense and fired the ball into the left corner of the net to make the score 4-0.
