Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. – On a blustery Sunday afternoon, the Black Hills State University soccer team was able to get a goal against the wind but could not overcome a 4-0 deficit in a 6-1 loss to MSU Denver.
The Yellow Jackets close out its home portion of their inaugural season with a 1-12 overall record and 0-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while MSU Denver improves to 5-4-4, 4-3-2.Â
Down 4-0, freshman Rose Miller scored her third goal of the season in the 49th minute when she gained enough space from 20 yards out to launch her shot into the wind. The Roadrunners goalkeeper got a hand on the ball, but the power of Miller's shot carried the ball across the goal line.
However, the Roadrunners struck two more times after that to take the 6-1 victory. MSUD scored four first half goals, beginning with Reigna Banks shot in the seventh minute of action, along with goals in the ninth, 33rd and 38th minutes of the first half.
Yellow Jacket goalkeeper Raven Johnson started her second game of the season, stopping six shots while Therese Wilhelmi played the second half making nine saves.
The Yellow Jackets attempted six shots on the afternoon, with three landing on frame. Katie Nielson attempted a team-high three shots while Emily Keller, Jamy Shassetz and Miller had the other three.
Banks attempted a team-best 12 shots for MSUD, including two goals scored while Gricelda Gomez also had two goals. The other goals came from Elise Boisnard and Kaylee Bourelle.
Black Hills State has four remaining games in its inaugural season, all on the road. The Yellow Jackets play at Colorado Christian on Friday and play at Colorado Mines Sunday. They then close out the regular season at Westminster and Colorado Mesa on October 28 and 30, respectively.Â
