SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University indoor track and field cross country teams hosted and competed in the Myrle Hanson Open on Friday evening. The men finished first out of five teams, while the women were second out of five teams. Chadron State, Dickinson State, Rocky Mountain College, and South Dakota Mines were the other schools competing.
On the men's side, Yellow Jackets won seven events. In field events, the Green and Gold swept the top four spots in the high jump, with
Tristan Hepp leading the way, clearing a height of 1.91 meters.
Allan McDonnell (1.91m),
Ryan Olsen (1.86m), and
Brad Lyman (1.81m) were second, third, and fourth, respectively. In pole vault,
Bryce Boser took first (4.63m) and
Joe Melia was just behind in second place (4.18m). McDonnell also finished third in the triple jump (12.66m).
In running events,
Tristan Hepp was first in the 60 meter hurdles (8.50) and the 60 meter dash (7.13), while also competing on the winning 4X400 meter relay team. Joining Hepp on the relay was
Garrett Snook,
Mark Fruechte, and
Taylor Hepp. Snook was second in the 200 meter dash, while
Justin Thorstad was second in the 800 meter dash, and
Seth Kovar was second in the 60 meter hurdles.
In distance events, Yellow Jackets swept the top four places in the 3000 meter run.
Jonah Theisen finished first (8:53.43), followed by
Nathan Fredrick,
Chance Dooley, and Jake Iverson.
Jordan Theisen won the mile (4:26.20).
The men finished in first with 166.5 points. South Dakota Mines was second (132), and Chadron State was third (94).
For the Green and Gold women,
Whitney Scott won the pole vault event (3.32m), while
Alexandra Richards was second, and
Jordyn Huneke was third.
Lia Guigui won the high jump (1.58m), and Richards was just behind, tying for second (1.53m). Maddi Fidler took third in the shot put (10.95m).
Yellow Jackets swept the top three spots in the 60 meter hurdles.
Brittney Marosok was first (9.46), followed by
Julette Goehring, and Katie Campbell. Marosok and Goehring were both members of the winning 4X400 relay team, and were joined by
Shayna Soderstrom, who also won the 200 meter dash, and
Zoe Langseth.
Janae Bjorgum placed third in the 60 meter dash (8.23).
In distance events, Abbie Frederick took first in the mile (5:15.00), followed by
Cailey Roth, who was second.
Savannah Davis won the 3000 meter run (10:40.13).
The women were second, with 121 points. Chadron State finished first with 141, and Dickinson State (82) rounded out the top three.
Black Hills State next competes at the Dave Little Alumni Mile on January 27.
