SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University rodeo teams are set to travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, for the Cornhusker Stampede. The two-day rodeo will be April 26-27.   

The Yellow Jackets are coming off their home event. The Green and Gold women won the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede, while the men took second. Carlee Johnston also won the all-around.

With two competition weekends remaining before then National Finals Rodeo, the women's team leads the Great Plains Region, and is second nationally, with 4,700 points. The men are fourth in the region with 2,430 points. Yellow Jackets hold the top five spots in the Great Plains Region Women's All-Around. Carlee Johnston is currently first, while Alyssa Lockhart, KeAnna Ward, Emilee Pauley, and Cedar Jandreau fill out the top five. Carlee Johnston is second nationally, and Lockhart is third.

In barrel racing, Lockhart leads the way in the region, while Carlee Johnston is third. Lockhart and Carlee Johnston are first and second, respectively, in breakaway roping, while Courtney Peters is fourth, and Cora Borman is fifth. Lockhart is first nationally in breakaway roping.

In goat tying, Yellow Jacket women sit in first (Ward), second (Carlee Johnston), third (Pauley), fifth (Lockhart), and sixth (Tayle Brink).

In tie-down roping, Carson Johnston is tied for third in the region, while Colton Backhaus is tied for sixth.

In team roping, Collin Palmer is sixth for header, and Backhaus is fifth as heeler.

Following this weekend's stampede, the Yellow Jackets will wrap up the regular season at Dickinson May 3-4.
