SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University rodeo teams are set for the final competition of the regular season this weekend. The Yellow Jackets will compete at the Blue Hawk Stampede, hosted by Dickinson State University May 3-4.
Heading into the final rodeo, the Green and Gold women are first in both the region and the nation, while the Yellow Jacket men sit in fourth place in the Great Plains Region. BHSU women hold the top-five spots in the region all-around standings, with Alyssa Lockhart sitting in first and Carlee Johnston second. Lockhart and Johnston are nationally second and third, respectively. Emilee Pauley is third regionally, KeAnna Ward is fourth, and Cedar Jandreau is fifth.
In barrel racing, Lockhart leads the region, while Carlee Johnston is third. Lockhart and Johnston are first and second, respectively, in breakaway roping, while Courtney Peters is fourth and Cora Borman is fifth.
In goat tying, Yellow Jackets hold the top four spots in the region. Ward sits in first, with Carlee Johnston and Pauley just behind in third and fourth, respectively.
Carson Johnston sits in a tie for fifth in tie down roping. Jordan Staton is sixth as header in team roping, while Chandler Comfort is first as a heeler.
Following this weekend's stampede, the members of the Green and Gold that qualify will compete at the College National Finals Rodeo held in Casper, Wyoming, in June.
