SPEARFISH, S.D. – A large incoming class looks to find success this year for the Black Hills State University women's golf team.
Head coach Kelly Welker enters her second year at the helm of the program, and has a large group of newcomers to fill out the squad. Returning are Hayley Franke and Gracie Johnson. Franke, the only senior on the team, will provide valuable leadership and experience, while Johnson looks to improve on her freshman season.
Joining the Yellow Jackets for the 2019-20 season are four freshman, including a pair from Kelly Walsh High School, which has won the Wyoming State Championship the last three years. Nicole Klungness was a three-time All-State player, highlighted by a second place finish at the State Championship in 2018. Teammate Jocelyn Olson was named All-State four times. She won state her junior year and was named the Wyoming WSGA Girls Player of the Year that season.
Also coming in is Sarah Galles, who was third individually at the Wyoming State Championships last year, and Abigail James, who was fifth at the same tournament.
The Green and Gold begin the season at the RMAC Fall Preview in Pueblo, Colorado. The tournament, hosted by CSU-Pueblo, will be held September 9-10. Overall, the team is scheduled to travel to four tournaments in the fall.
