LINCOLN, Neb. – Black Hills State rodeo traveled to Nebraska to compete in the Cornhusker Stampede on May 6-7.
This was the final rodeo of the season and determined the qualifiers for the College National Finals Rodeo hosted in Casper, Wyo.
Women
Karli Verhulst placed second in the goat tying with a 15.8 on two runs.
Cashae McGee placed sixth with a 17.1 on two. In the long go,
Emilee Pauley placed sixth with an 8.5,
Savana Johnston placed ninth with an 8.8, and
Chanci Kraft placed tenth with an 8.9.
Sydney Maher took home fourth place with a time of 32.36 on two.
Brooklyn Hanson followed close behind with a 32.50 placing fifth.
Samantha Hubert snagged fifth place in the breakaway roping with an 8.5 on two. In the long go, Pauley placed second with a 2.7 and Johnston placed sixth with a 3.4.
Men
Riley Staton won the long go with a smoking time of 10.0. Close behind was
Austin Madison placing third in the go with a 10.8.
Riley Hannum placed sixth in the steer wrestling with a 30.5 on two steers.
Staton also placed fourth in the team roping with his partner from Mid-Plains Community College with a time of 9.0 on one.
Brett Mattson and Hannum placed sixth with a 12.8 on one.
Year End Results
At the end of the season, the Women's team earned first place in the region, earning a total of 2,288.83 points. Pauley also won the all-around title earning her a spot at the college finals in two events – barrel racing and goat tying.
Hanson earned the third-place spot in the breakaway roping with 376 points. McGee placed third in the goat tying with 786.5 points. Maher will be joining the team competing at the finals in the barrel racing.
For the men, Staton placed second in the region as a heeler with 510 points.
Clayton Backhaus placed third in the heading with 430 points. Hannum will also be making the trip to Casper as a heeler.
