Black Hills State rodeo wrapped up at the 2023 College Nationals Final Rodeo which saw the women place 13th overall and the men 43rd.
Three Yellow Jackets finished top-15 in their respective event, with
Austin Madison placing 9th overall in steer wrestling with an average of 34.5 including a 5.6 in the first go.
Chanci Kraft finished 15th in breakaway roping with a 5.1, and finshed second in the second-go with a 2.2.
Cashae McGee placed 15th in goat tying with a 20.3 on three, and had a best time of 6.5 in the second-go.
McGee also placed 37th in barrel racing with a 51.42 after registering her best time in the third go-round with a 15.63. In breakaway roping,
Sydney Theobald was in first place after a 2.4 first-go before finishing 37th overall.
BHSU had four finishers in team roping, seeing
Jayme Peterson come in 30th with an 8.3 in the second go,
Sam Larson in 31st with an 8.5 on three,
Clayton Backhaus in 35th with a 12.8 on one, and
Riley Staton in 37th with a 14.2 on two.
Staton also competed in tie down roping, placing 30th with a 23.5 after putting up a 10.3 in the second-go, while
Luke Mavity finished 36th with a 45.3, with ihs best time of 21.0 on the third-go.
